Sunscreen Celebrities: Rex Dupain

Sunscreen Celebrities: Rex Dupain

Seeking new perspectives on beach culture, Dupain has travelled from Sydney to Coney Island, Barcelona and Sorrento. In the exhibition Sunscreen celebrities, Dupain also captures the vitality of families, lovers, icebergers and life savers against the fine sands of Bondi Beach.

Liberated from the pressures of work and social norms there is an innate self-awareness in his beachside idols. Whether it is a slight hand gesture, a languid pose or a torso flexed in motion, each subject is responding to the elements – sun, water, air and earth – on their skin.

Collected and exhibited internationally, Dupain has been a finalist in the Art Gallery of NSW’s Sulman, Archibald and Wynne prizes.
