Heidrun Löhr is a pre-eminent photographer of live performance in Australia. Her career spans more than twenty years across performance, dance, theatre and contemporary visual arts practice. Löhr is known for her active use of the camera across the stage. Her photographs are more than documentation of a vanishing event. The photographs are collaborative works arising from the motion of both the photographer and the performer. Drawn from Löhr’s archive of 300,000 images, this exhibition explores the notion of parallax in her practice. Parallax is the difference in the apparent position of an object from two viewpoints. The parallax factor intensifies with the added variable of the moving body in performance. Löhr captures something unique and singular, beyond the capabilities of the human eye.
