The Conceptual Portrait

This course runs at the same time every week over 5 weeks

The Conceptual Portrait is designed to introduce participants to techniques and approaches to developing portraits that illustrate the artist’s intention and aesthetic sensibilities.

Led by artist Laura Moore, participants will receive a lecture introducing ideas such as Anonymity, Self-Expression, Performance, Appropriation and Beauty followed by a discussion of historical and contemporary images. You will receive a good overall introduction to concept development through demonstrations and photo-shoots with models.

You'll be given a practical assignment, the results of which will be reviewed in the following class.

This course is for those who wish to explore the photographic portrait more deeply in their practice and interrogate its construction and meanings.
