February heralds the return of Australia’s oldest and most respected photography magazine.

The title feature ‘Under the sun’ centres on the ACP’s major new exhibition of the same name opening in February 2017 at the State Library of NSW. This exhibition sees the commissioning of a diverse line-up of photographic artists to respond to, contemplate and challenge the iconic Max Dupain photograph ‘Sunbaker’ - Peta Clancy, Christopher Day, Destiny Deacon, Michalea Gleave, Nasim Nasr, Sara Oscar, Julie Rrap, Khaled Sabsabi, Yhonnie Scarce, Christian Thompson, Angela Tiatia, Kawita Vatanajyankur, Daniel von Sturmer, Justene Williams and William Yang. The magazine features sumptuously printed photographs from this incredible range of artists.

Our in-depth interview section includes ACP Curator Claire Monneraye talking to artist Sara Oscar about her work for ‘Under the sun’; we feature a conversation between two award-winning photobook makers,Cristina de Middel and Mariela Sancari; and Claudia Hinterseer, founder of NOOR photojournalism agency talks to Beijing-based Sim Chi Yin about her heartbreaking project ‘Dying to Breathe’. We pay tribute to the recently passed John Berger; profile influential French curator, writer and editor Marc Feustel; present the work of young, Sydney-based photographer Jesse Lizotte; and hear from Angel Luis Gonzalez, Director of Photo Ireland Festival, about bringing the world of photography to Dublin.

We introduce a number of ongoing collaborations with important international photographic organisations and publications – the exciting collective #DYSTURB, bringing global social and political stories to new audiences; editor Wei-I Lee from Taiwanese photography magazine ‘Voices of Photography’; and Patricia Karallis, Editor of the acclaimed photography website Paper Journal.

Finally, we feature photobook reviews by an illustrious panel including Dan Rule, Perimeter Books; Shaune Lakin, Curator of Photography at the National Gallery of Australia; Shoair Mavlian, Curator of Photography at Tate Modern, London, and Daniel Blight, The Photographers’ Gallery, London. In our technology section Paul Batt explores photography’s cutting edge with the industry’s key players.
