Photo of the Week - 24.04.15
By Belinda Hungerford
This gorgeous and cinematic handcoloured photograph by Robyn Stacey is currently on display at the National Gallery of Australia. The exhibition Colour My World: handcoloured Australian photography is on until 30 August.
The exhibition is the first in Australia dedicated to handcoloured photography as a significant aspect of recent Australian art. The practice began during the infancy of photography in the mid-19th century but fell out of favour around a hundred years later. Its popularity was revived in the 1970s and has remained a constant technique ever since.
Along with Robyn Stacey, the exhibition features work by Micky Allan, Ruth Maddison, Warren Breninger, Julie Rrap, Janina Green, Christine Barry, Fiona Hall, Miriam Stannage, Nici Cumpston, Lyndell Brown, Charles Green and Jon Cattapan.
