Sydney-born Grant Mudford moved to America permanently in 1977 after receiving a Visual Arts Board Travel Grant from the Australia Council for the Arts. Predominately known for his architectural photography, Mudford originally gained notice for his modernist aesthetic and interest in the vernacular. Mexico is typical of his early American works with its front-on façade, stark sunlight, position of doorways and the absence of people to create an ambiguity of scale.
