A taste of things to come

Last Saturday visiting Dutch artist Marlous van der Sloot delivered an intimate and engaging talk on her series Le Corps Vecu, and the selected works currently exhibited in group show Dear Sylvia. For those that were present Marlous explained her passion for photography and her desire to bring the viewer back into their bodies. Marlous explained her interest in how humans distinguish themselves as separate to the animal kingdom, living more in the mind than in our physical form. Marlous' images evoke the senses, forcing us to experience the work through our physical reaction to the scene displayed and the questions they pose; is that snow? is that a tongue? what does that feel like?

Marlous will remain in Sydney till 8 February and will teach a workshop, Photocise: Photographing Senses, on Saturday 7 February from 10am - 4pm. Exploring the representation of the physical qualities of the body Marlous will instruct students to explore touch, taste, sight, smell and sound through two unique tasks. Students will play and practice with found objects, coincidence and multiple representations to explore how to communicate the body through a photograph.

This is a small taste of the events and programs we have scheduled for 2015. ACP will bring you more photographers, more opportunities to engage with photography and great new platforms for exploration! To see what else we have lined up for the photography lover, check out our courses and workshops.
